DHAKA: Bangladesh’s state-owned recruiting agency informed Arab News on Sunday that the country is getting ready to dispatch its initial group of trained nurses to Saudi Arabia by early next year.
Approximately 3 million Bangladeshi citizens are the biggest community of foreigners in Saudi Arabia, where they are employed and live. However, the group includes only a small number of clinicians, as indicated by data from the Bangladesh Medical Association.
In 2022, an agreement was signed by the two countries to recruit health workers from Bangladesh’s over 100 medical colleges, focusing on the abundant certified doctors, nurses, and medics.
The Bangladesh Overseas Employment and Services Ltd., a recruitment agency under the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, is currently getting ready to send a group of more than 100 nurses to Saudi Arabia.
“We received a demand to dispatch 150 nurses to the Kingdom … Assuming everything goes as planned, we can anticipate the initial group to depart for the Kingdom in the beginning of next year,” stated BOESL Executive Director Shawkat Ali.
Nurses in Saudi Arabia are required to pass the Saudi Prometric Exam before they can work in the Kingdom. He stated that despite the abundance of nursing school graduates in Bangladesh, the majority lack the necessary Prometric certifications.
“If we can send out a large group of trained medical professionals overseas, they would be able to send back increased remittances.”
