BEIRUT: Lebanon’s Prime Minister Najib Mikati criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for asking UN chief Antonio Guterres to withdraw peacekeepers from the Lebanese border, where tensions between Hezbollah and Israeli forces have increased.

Mikati stated that Lebanon disapproves of Netanyahu’s stance and the Israeli attack on UNIFIL peacekeepers.

He stated that Netanyahu’s warning to Guterres to remove UNIFIL marks a new phase in Israel’s disregard for international norms.

BEIRUT: Lebanon’s Prime Minister Najib Mikati has criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for requesting UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to withdraw peacekeepers from the Lebanese border, where clashes between Hezbollah, backed by Iran, and Israeli soldiers have escalated.

Mikati stated that Lebanon disapproves of Netanyahu’s stance and the Israeli attack on UNIFIL peacekeepers.

He stated that Netanyahu’s warning to Guterres asking for the UNIFIL’s removal marks a new phase in Israel’s pattern of disregarding international norms.

Mikati announced this while Saudi Arabia started providing relief air support to Lebanon, with the first plane of humanitarian and medical aid arriving in Beirut.

On Sunday, Rafic Hariri International Airport saw the arrival of the initial plane from the Saudi relief airlift, with the presence of the Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon Walid Bukhari.
