Schumacher slams Red Bull: ‘Newey’s successor is not up to the task.’

There are only six races remaining in the 2024 Formula 1 season. Both the championship title and the team title are still undecided in what has been a highly competitive year. The championship fight between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris is expected to come down to the last minute. Ralf Schumacher, who has won six Grand Prix races, believes that Red Bull’s performance in Austin will indicate the potential abilities of their RB20 for the remainder of the season.

Before the United States Grand Prix, F1 teams have a couple of weeks to install their newest upgrades on their cars for the last part of the season. It is anticipated that Red Bull Racing will introduce certain parts to the Circuit of the Americas. In an interview with Formel1.de, Ralf Schumacher suggests that if Red Bull underperforms, McLaren could easily win the constructors championship.

Schumacher: The next race will be ‘an indicator’ for Red Bull

It will certainly serve as a sign for them. He started by explaining that if Red Bull’s strength in fast and long curves does not benefit them at a particular track, Max will face problems that will affect the rest of the season.

“Wache is not up to the task”

The German also questioned the technical team of the Milton-Keynes-based squad: “I think that maybe Pierre Waché is not up to the task. I think that maybe he can’t do it as well as Adrian Newey could. He’s kind of lacking between the relationship between the driver and the optimum of the car. I hope for Red Bull that they can work on everything, I feel like it’s going to be a tough time for Red Bull,” Schumacher stated.

The F1 veteran believes that Red Bull could be in a worse position without their star man. “Mostly if Verstappen does decide to leave someday. Because we do see again, what difference he made in the last race.”

Arguably, the Dutchman is the top driver Red Bull has ever created. The three-time world champion still manages to get the best performance from his RB20, even when he feels uneasy in the car.
