Brooks Koepka set to venture away from LIV Golf after lining up Tour return

Over the past two years, Brooks Koepka has been associated with LIV Golf; however, the five-time major champion is set to return to the DP World Tour next month.

Brooks Koepka has declared his intention to return to the DP World Tour next month, as the LIV Golf standout has chosen to participate in the upcoming Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

In recent years, Koepka’s appearances have been limited to a few events on the Asian Tour and Japan Golf Tour, as he has primarily focused on his commitments to LIV, having officially joined the Saudi-backed league in 2022. Following this decision, Koepka faced a ban from participating in the PGA Tour.

This has certainly allowed him to participate in any event on the American circuit since then. Regarding the DP World Tour, Koepka has also relinquished his membership, but he can still compete in Scotland through a sponsor invitation.

He will be playing in the tournament that starts on October 3, which will take place across three of Scotland’s premier courses: the Old Course at St Andrews, Carnoustie, and Kingsbarns Golf Links. “I’ve been lucky to compete in several Dunhill Links and two Open Championships at St Andrews over the years, and these experiences are always the highlights of my year,” he mentioned in a statement.

Expressing his admiration for Scottish golf, particularly for St Andrews, Koepka stated, “I have a deep appreciation for Links golf, and St Andrews stands out as my favorite course globally. I could play there daily for the remainder of my life without ever growing weary of it… The ambiance both on and off the course during the Dunhill is truly remarkable.

“I had the opportunity to play alongside my father one year and with my close friend and caddie, Ricky Elliott, on another occasion. Those two weeks will always hold a special place in my heart.” The five-time major champion Koepka is set to participate in the prestigious Scottish event, which also features Rory McIlroy among its impressive roster.

The dynamic duo, who have recently found themselves on opposing sides of golf’s political landscape, are set to reunite on the golf course twice within three months. Their first encounter will take place at the Dunhill Links, followed by a highly anticipated PGA Tour versus LIV showdown in Las Vegas, where McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler will face off against Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau.

In addition to Koepka’s trip to Scotland, he won’t be the only LIV player in the lineup; Tyrrell Hatton, a two-time champion of the event in 2016 and 2017, will also be participating.

Hatton’s re-entry into the DP World Tour holds significant importance for his efforts to maintain his membership and eligibility for the Ryder Cup. The English golfer must participate in four events before the year’s conclusion, having already competed in two: the Dubai Desert Classic and the British Masters.

Additionally, Hatton has indicated his desire to participate in the Spanish Open at the end of September, followed by the Dunhill Links the subsequent week, with aspirations of qualifying for both the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and the DP World Tour Championship scheduled for November.
