Ludvig Aberg has established himself as one of the premier golfers in the world over the past year; however, he has encountered challenges as the season draws to a close.
Ludvig Aberg is set to have surgery to address a knee issue following the conclusion of his 2024 PGA Tour season at last week’s Tour Championship.
Over the past year, Aberg has emerged as one of the most prominent figures in golf, transitioning from a college amateur to the fourth-ranked player globally within just twelve months. During this period, he secured victories on both the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour, in addition to playing a pivotal role in Europe’s triumph at the 2023 Ryder Cup.
His incredible ascent nearly reached its peak at Augusta National in April, where the Swede came heartbreakingly close to claiming victory in the Masters during his debut, ultimately finishing four shots behind Scottie Scheffler, the green jacket winner.
However, the young golfer’s second season has not been as fruitful, as he has been battling a persistent knee problem while competing on the PGA Tour. His season concluded at the Tour Championship on Sunday, where he secured 16th place in the 30-player event at East Lake.
Aberg will now shift his attention to his physical health, as the Golf Channel has reported that the European golfer is set to undergo arthroscopic surgery to address a torn meniscus in his left knee. According to the report, Aberg is anticipated to be out of action for approximately four weeks; however, the 24-year-old is expected to return to competition before the conclusion of 2024.
Having established himself as one of the most promising talents in the sport, Aberg remains grounded despite his rapid rise to fame. “There are many new developments occurring,” he remarked in Atlanta last week. “However, I believe it is crucial for me to distinguish between these various aspects.”

Of course, I have goals to improve my golf game. I aspire to play at a higher level and compete in larger tournaments, and I want to perform well in those events. It’s just part of my competitive nature. The past year or so has been incredible for my golf journey, opening up many new opportunities that I hadn’t experienced before. I truly enjoy playing golf and being part of this community.
Reflecting on his inaugural complete year on Tour, he remarked, “It has been an enjoyable experience. I still view myself as a newcomer, despite it being my second year or so. Nevertheless, it has been remarkable to participate in numerous significant events, complete a full season, and accumulate a wealth of memorable experiences. While I anticipate a brief respite, I am equally eager to conclude this season positively at East Lake.”
