Elin Nordegren learned of her then-husband Tiger Woods’ infidelity and allegedly conveyed a harsh message to a waitress involved in the controversy.
Upon uncovering his unfaithfulness, Nordegren is said to have sent a pointed message to one of Woods’ mistresses, an event that is thought to have contributed to his infamous car accident in their front yard.
In the early morning of November 27, 2009, police discovered Woods lying on the ground near his black Cadillac Escalade, which had collided with a fire hydrant and then crashed into a tree.
Reports suggest that Nordegren, upon learning of her husband’s numerous infidelities, confronted him with a golf club, breaking the windows of his car in the process. Additionally, a fresh insight has emerged from Woods’ biographer, James Patterson, during an interview with the Daily Mail.
Patterson elaborated on how Nordegren uncovered the reality of Woods’ infidelities, despite his persistent denials regarding allegations that were imminent to be revealed by a magazine. Taking initiative, she reached out directly to one of the women involved.
While Woods was asleep, Nordegren accessed his phone and contacted one of the women, asserting, “I know everything,” and engaged in a message exchange prior to confronting another of his mistresses.
When the other woman asked who was on the line, Nordegren responded sharply, saying, “You know exactly who this is, since you’re sleeping with my husband.”
After being awakened and confronted, Woods quickly locked himself in the bathroom for a brief moment before rushing out of the house. He jumped into his Cadillac but ended up crashing just 150 yards away, right outside his front yard in Windermere, Florida, which is very close to Disney World and Universal Studios.
This event signified the beginning of a decline in Woods’ career, prompting him to withdraw from golf and release a statement that seemed to concede his infidelity.
In his statement, he expressed: “Following extensive reflection, I have chosen to take an indefinite hiatus from professional golf. It is essential for me to concentrate on becoming a better husband, father, and individual.”
As the news unfolded, a wave of women approached Nordegren and the media, including numerous porn stars, strippers, escorts, and party girls, which left his then-wife feeling completely humiliated for being so misled.
The couple finalized their divorce less than a year later, in August 2010, with Nordegren receiving a substantial $100 million (£75 million) settlement and joint custody of their children.
