Marc Leishman was forced out of the UK event, with it being revealed by Ripper GC Captain, Cameron Smith, that the Aussie had been suffering with appendicitis.
On Saturday morning at JCB Golf and Country Club, it was announced that Marc Leishman, a player from Ripper GC, would not be participating. The reason for his absence was unclear at that moment, particularly since the Australian golfer displayed no signs of discomfort on Friday.
Nevertheless, during the broadcast preceding the players’ tee-off at LIV Golf UK, Ripper GC Captain, Cameron Smith, disclosed that his close friend had pulled out of the event due to appendicitis.
Leishman shared a post on his social media account on Saturday afternoon, showing himself sitting up in bed and giving a thumbs up, along with a caption expressing his disappointment at having to withdraw from the event due to health reasons. He also mentioned that he came to England with an appendix and will be leaving without it, emphasizing the seriousness of appendicitis.
The 40-year-old may miss the next LIV Golf event at Greenbrier on the 16th to 18th August due to surgery on Saturday morning for appendicitis. Recovery time can vary from one week to four, depending on the type of surgery.
Due to the team structure in the LIV Golf League, Ripper GC had to bring in Wade Ormsby, another Australian player, to replace Leishman on both Saturday and Sunday, as he is 44 years old.
In relation to scoring, the news appeared to ignite Ripper GC Captain, Smith, who kicked off the second day of LIV Golf UK in impressive fashion! Starting at the second hole in the shotgun start format, the former Open Championship winner managed to birdie three out of his first four holes.
Despite a bogey at the sixth, he bounced back with birdies at the seventh, ninth, 11th, and 13th, putting Smith in the lead with six holes to go. Defending his LIV Golf UK title from his victory at Centurion in 2023, the 30-year-old displayed a remarkable performance over the weekend.
