LIV Golf UK descends into chaos as fan dives into lake and another almost falls into bunker

A packed-out crowd descended on JCB Country and Golf Club for the opening round of LIV Golf UK on Friday, and it appears those watching on were enjoying themselves.

An unruly LIV Golf audience attended the inaugural round of the breakaway league’s UK tournament at JCB Country and Golf Club in Staffordshire on Friday.

All general ground passes have been sold out, and 14,000 golf enthusiasts flocked to the new UK headquarters of the LIV setup. It is safe to say that they were having a great time. Just a few holes into the opening round on Friday, the league’s in-house broadcast on YouTube showed one fan swimming in a JCB lake.

The person wearing only shorts was spotted swimming in one of the water features on the course, then they climbed onto a floating LIV-JCB structure.

Commentator David Feherty exclaimed, “Ah, our first swimmer!” as the broadcast switched to the fan taking a dip. The commotion continued in round one, as Majesticks GC co-captain Ian Poulter got involved by throwing his ball into a section of his home crowd.

After Poulter made par at the par-three ninth, he was asked to toss his ball into the crowd, which he happily did. A particularly enthusiastic fan went above and beyond, accidentally falling through the crowd barriers while trying to grab Poulter’s ball.

While making his way past the barriers, the fan accidentally fell into the green-side fescue, narrowly missing a bunker to the left of the putting surface. Leading up to the event, English star Poulter was relishing the opportunity to compete in front of a sold-out home crowd this week.

It’s always great to have the chance to play in front of our home fans, and this week is going to be extra special with 14,000 tickets available,” he mentioned during the lead-up on Wednesday. “We don’t get to play golf here often, so when we do, it’s a really unique experience.

Having the support of the home fan is crucial for our team. The presence of such strong support adds a bit of pressure to perform well in front of them, which is actually beneficial as it helps to get the adrenaline flowing early on. This ensures that your mind is fully engaged right from the start.

In regards to knowledge, it is essential for us to acquire it like everyone else. We will be relying on the support of our home fans this week. Poulter expressed his thoughts on the possibility of winning at home by stating: “It would hold significant value… It’s all about having the correct level of adrenaline, attitude, and mindset to perform well this week, while enjoying the golf course with the fans. If we manage to achieve success, this victory will be quite significant for me, especially at the age of 48.”
