Bryson DeChambeau sends retirement message to Tiger Woods after PGA Tour star’s future questioned

Bryson DeChambeau has given his verdict on Tiger Woods’ future in professional golf, after it was suggested the 15-time major champion should retire from competing.

Bryson DeChambeau is confident that Tiger Woods still possesses the necessary skills to compete at the highest level of professional golf, despite concerns about the 15-time major champion’s future in the sport.

Woods participated in just his fifth start of the season at The Open Championship last week, failing to make the cut due to challenging conditions at Royal Troon. Prior to the event, Colin Montgomerie suggested that Woods’ era of contending for golf’s top honors was finished, despite the 82-time PGA Tour winner’s determination to compete in the four major championships.

Woods himself was swift to dismiss the assertions, stating before last week’s Open: “Well, as a past champion, I’m exempt until I’m 60. Colin is not. He is not a past champion, so he’s not exempt. So he doesn’t get the opportunity to make that decision.”

Yes, I do. Therefore, when I reach his age, I will have the opportunity to make that choice, which he won’t have. After failing to make the cut last Friday, the three-time Open champion announced his intention to return to the final major of the year at Royal Portrush next year, indicating his confidence in his ability to continue competing.

It’s been a week since his former Ryder Cup teammate DeChambeau shared his thoughts, stating that the 48-year-old golfer has the full right to keep competing at the highest level. During the LIV Golf UK event, the Crushers captain mentioned, “He’s likely the most impactful figure in the world of golf.”

Currently, he holds the most significant influence in the world of golf, and I believe he should be given the opportunity to compete in the major tournaments. His contributions to the sport have been substantial, and he remains dedicated to participating in these events and striving for victory. His competitive spirit is truly commendable, and I admire his determination to succeed.

Woods had previously mentioned that he would contemplate retirement once he deems himself unable to contend for titles at the highest level, a feat DeChambeau thinks he is still capable of achieving despite the current group of contemporary stars. “I believe he still has what it takes,” stated the LIV star regarding Woods’ potential to secure an unprecedented 83rd PGA Tour victory.

He faces a challenging path to outperform us younger players, but he possesses the determination and passion to persist until he achieves his goal. I wouldn’t underestimate him. Prior to this week’s LIV event in the UK, DeChambeau caused a stir by sharing a YouTube video of himself playing golf with former US President Donald Trump.

DeChambeau explained how the Trump collaboration happened on Thursday, saying: “It’s a privilege to play with someone of that level of influence, regardless of their political affiliation… We reached out and invited him to play, and he agreed. We also invited others from the opposite side, and anyone who wants to play. They are all eager to participate for charity. We wanted to focus on charity and the wounded warriors foundation.”
