Sky Golf commentators forced to apologise after furious Jordan Spieth moment at Open

Jordan Spieth dragged a shot from the tee of the tenth hole at Troon, prompting an unsavoury outburst, which commentators were forced to apologise for.

Jordan Spieth’s outburst at Royal Troon during Friday’s round led to Sky Golf commentators having to quickly issue an apology when an explicit word from the American golfer was inadvertently broadcast.

The golfer from Dallas, Texas, aged 30, is currently competing in his second round at the 152nd Open Championships in Scotland, holding the T54 position with a score of +3. He aims to better his 71 strokes from Thursday’s round as the tournament advances, alongside world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Cameron Young.

Nevertheless, Spieth has encountered challenges in his current round at Troon, veering far right onto the railway tracks bordering the tenth hole. Clearly frustrated by his performance in an attempt to maintain an even score, Spieth slumped down with a firm grip on his driver, exclaiming: “S***.”.

The Sky Golf commentary team quickly issued an apology for the strong language heard during the Open Championship coverage. Spieth managed to recover from the shot, but ultimately missed, dropping to +1 in a frustrating manner.

On the eleventh hole, things got even worse for Spieth when he shanked another tee shot out of bounds, resulting in a drop shot. Despite putting from the fringe of the green for a bogey, he ended up with a double, bringing his overall round score to +3.

Spieth, on the other hand, is currently tied with Young in terms of score. Meanwhile, Scheffler is making strides at Troon, positioned at T11 with Jason Day and Xander Schauffele at -1. Despite the current odds not being in his favor, Spieth aims to build on his three major tournament victories achieved thus far.

The golfer clinched the Masters and the US Open in 2015, followed by his first Open Championship win at Royal Birkdale in 2017. During that event, Spieth claimed victory with an overall score of -12, with Matt Kuchar trailing at -9 and Li Haotong securing third place with a score of -6.
