Rory McIlroy and Erica Stoll make public appearance as Jon Rahm absent from Ryder Cup reunion

Rory McIlroy and Erica Stoll joined a number of the Northern Irishman’s Ryder Cup teammates and their partners ahead of his return at this week’s Scottish Open.

Rory McIlroy was photographed with his spouse Erica Stoll and his fellow Ryder Cup teammates, one month after the couple revealed that they had called off their divorce.

Following a three-week hiatus, McIlroy returns to competition this week to defend his Scottish Open championship at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick. Prior to the tournament, McIlroy was spotted dining with members of Europe’s victorious 2023 Ryder Cup team.

Seated at the table were Team Europe captain Luke Donald, along with Shane Lowry, Tommy Fleetwood, and Nicolai Hojgaard. Also present was one of McIlroy’s competitors in LIV Golf, Tyrrell Hatton, who contributed to Europe’s triumph over Team USA last October.

One person missing from the group was Hatton’s LIV captain Jon Rahm, who played a crucial role in Donald’s team at Marco Simone. The players’ partners, such as Donald’s wife Dianne, were also present and Dianne shared a group photo on Instagram.

McIlroy’s wife Stoll joined the group, marking a rare public appearance together after facing relationship challenges. In May, before the PGA Championship, it was revealed that McIlroy had initiated divorce proceedings.

Rory McIlroy’s public relations team announced two months ago that a divorce had been filed. The divorce papers later revealed that the couple’s marriage was ‘irretrievably broken’, with a prenuptial agreement and joint-custody of their three-year-old daughter Poppy.

However, McIlroy surprised everyone by announcing a change of heart just weeks later. Prior to the US Open at Pinehurst No. 2, the four-time major champion confirmed that the divorce had been called off, expressing his and Stoll’s commitment to keeping their family intact.

McIlroy expressed his disappointment regarding the recent rumors surrounding his personal life, as reported by The Guardian. He stated that engaging in addressing each rumor would be unwise. In the recent weeks, both Erica and himself have come to the conclusion that their optimal path forward is to remain a family. Fortunately, they have successfully worked through their issues and are eager to embark on a fresh start.

A few days after that, McIlroy narrowly missed out on winning his first major title in a decade, losing to Bryson DeChambeau by just one shot in a thrilling final round at the US Open. After taking a break from competing, he is set to make his comeback at the Scottish Open this week, and then he will compete in The Open at Royal Troon shortly after.
