“He was the GOAT, but he’s not good enough”;“Don’t think he’ll make the cut”-Fans predict disappointing result for Tiger Woods as 2024 Open approaches

Tiger Woods is scheduled to play the Open Championship from July 18-21 at Royal Troon Golf Club thanks to his status as a former champion. However, most fans think the days when Woods could contend in the Majors are long gone.

With the upcoming final Major of the season drawing near, discussions on social media regarding Tiger Woods’ prospects at Royal Troon have intensified. When asked by NUCLR GOLF if Woods could secure another Claret Jug before retiring, a significant number of individuals have expressed skepticism, doubting his ability to either win or qualify for the tournament.

One X user posted the following:

“I don’t think he’ll make the cut again in a major. There. I said it.”

Another fan wrote the following:

“The man lives on. The golfer seen here died in a car accident. Sad, but true.”

Lets take a look at some other reactions on X:

“He might not make another cut before his career is over,” one fan posted.

“Sadly no. He was the GOAT, but he’s not good enough, fit enough and young enough anymore,” another X user wrote.

“Nah. But I sure as hell hope so,” another fan posted.

Tiger Woods has participated in only four tournaments in the 2024 PGA Tour season. He pulled out of the Genesis Invitational, managed to make the cut and finished 60th at the Masters, and was cut from both the PGA Championship and the US Open.

As per his own released schedule, Tiger Woods is set to compete in only The Open Championship for the rest of the season. It is yet to be determined whether he will take part in any events during the so-called FedEx Cup fall (September to December).

In the final month of the year, the (unofficial) Hero World Challenge, hosted by Tiger Woods, will take place. The 15-time Major champion is expected to participate in the event.

A look at Tiger Woods’ career at The Open Championship

Tiger Woods has participated in 22 installments of The Open Championship, making the cut in 18 of them. He has secured a position in the Top 25 in 15 instances and in the Top 10 in 10 instances, claiming victory three times (in 2000, 2005, and 2006) as his most notable achievements.

Woods is among the few players who have managed to defend their Open title. Following his successful defense in 2006, only Padraig Harrington has replicated this feat by winning in 2007 and 2008.

In 1996, Woods claimed the silver medal as the low amateur (finishing T22). Like Rory McIlroy, Woods stands as the sole player in recent times to secure the silver medal and go on to win the tournament.

Woods last competed in the Open in 2022. Unfortunately, he failed to make the cut in his last two appearances in 2019 and 2022.

Woods has competed in 94 Major championships, making the cut 78 times. He has achieved 59 Top 25 finishes and 41 Top 10 finishes, and has won 15 times.
