Phil Mickelson drops hint on LIV Golf future as nightmare streak continues

Phil Mickelson has been in brutal form over the past 12 months sitting near the bottom of LIV Golf’s player rankings and has given a clear indication on his future in the sport and with the league.

Phil Mickelson has every intention of remaining a part of the LIV Golf tour for the foreseeable future. The golfer, who has triumphed in six major championships, recently expressed his deep affection for the breakaway league while addressing inquiries about his continued involvement in the sport.

The iconic American golfer has faced challenges this season and currently ranks 43rd in the LIV Golf standings. He has openly acknowledged that he is nearing the conclusion of his illustrious career. Mickelson staged a remarkable comeback at the 2023 Masters, securing a second-place finish – his best performance in 27 years.

However, he has encountered significant difficulties on the new circuit since then, drawing criticism for being the first to leave the PGA Tour in favor of the Saudi-backed league.

In an interview with the Fairway to Heaven podcast, Mickelson expressed his contentment with staying in the game despite facing criticism and a slump in his performance. He emphasized that he is thoroughly enjoying his time on the tour and has no intention of stepping away just yet. Reflecting on his journey, Mickelson acknowledged that the first couple of years were challenging, but now things have taken a complete turn. He described the experience as an absolute blast, filled with immense fun and enjoyment.

Although Mickelson’s team, the HyFlyers, currently holds the second-to-last position in the LIV Golf rankings, the 54-year-old golfer has no regrets about his decision. In fact, he hopes that his association with LIV Golf will become a significant part of his sporting legacy.

In response to inquiries about his association with LIV and its impact on his legacy, he expressed his optimism, stating that it was not a choice but a necessity. He emphasized that elevated events and fairness in the tour were not optional for those who joined LIV.

He further highlighted the significance of their investment, involvement, and integration in the triumph of LIV. He expressed his satisfaction for the Tour members who now have access to all these opportunities, as they rightfully should. However, he emphasized that LIV’s unique position attracts a distinct and diverse audience, including a global following.

It is crucial for the game’s long-term success. The previous Tour model could never achieve this because it was impossible to gather all the players to travel and play worldwide, and to attract non-golfers to watch. I believe LIV Golf is accomplishing that, and I hope that my association with LIV and its success will be my legacy.
