Tommy Fleetwood reacts after news he’s ‘wanted to hear’ for nearly three years

PGA Tour star Tommy Fleetwood has reacted after hearing news he’s been waiting on since 2021.

The Englishman has had a steady season once again, securing three placements in the top ten, with a notable T3 finish at The Masters.

Despite being on the tour for six years, the 33-year-old golfer has yet to secure his first PGA Tour victory since his debut in 2018.

With near misses in the past, such as at the 2023 Canadian Open, Fleetwood must be feeling optimistic about finally clinching a win.

Tommy Fleetwood reacts to Olympic golf selection

Fleetwood’s outstanding performance has been acknowledged as he secures a spot in Team GB’s golf team for the Paris Olympics, despite still waiting for his first victory.

During a conversation on Monday, the 33-year-old revealed that he had been eagerly anticipating this news for almost three years since competing in Tokyo.

Fleetwood shared on X: “Ever since our departure from Tokyo in 2021, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the news of being chosen to represent @TeamGB once more! It’s a truly proud milestone in my career and I’m excited to join the rest of Team GB in Paris this Summer.”

Accompanied by Matt Fitzpatrick, Fleetwood will be competing at Le Golf National in early August as Team GB aims for another gold medal following Justin Rose’s victory in 2016.

Nevertheless, the English pair will face a formidable challenge as a formidable quartet of American golfers makes their way to Paris.

Xander Schauffele, the reigning champion of 2021, will be accompanied by Collin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark, and the top-ranked player in the world, Scottie Scheffler.

With his current form, the two-time Masters champion is expected to be the clear favorite to win a gold medal and further enhance his impressive record.
