Jon Rahm was just a few shots off the lead at the LIV Golf Nashville Invitational on Sunday, but his round was derailed after he hit his tee shot into the water at the sixth hole.
Jon Rahm, the renowned golfer from LIV Golf, displayed clear annoyance during the tee-off on Sunday as he expressed his frustration with the disruptive presence of drones.
LIV Golf utilizes drones to offer aerial coverage and enhance the viewing experience for spectators. However, Rahm’s reaction to this technology is far from positive. Following his opening shot on the sixth hole, which unfortunately ended up in the water, Rahm immediately blamed the drones for his misfortune.
“It’s absolutely astonishing. They always manage to be right there during my backswing. These drones are a constant annoyance,” Rahm vented his frustration at LIV Golf Nashville. Despite being in close pursuit of the leader and his teammate Tyrrell Hatton, Rahm’s hopes of victory were dashed after the mishap on the sixth hole. Now, he must deliver a flawless performance on the back-nine if he wishes to have any chance of securing the win.
Hatton managed to secure the win after a weather delay in Tennessee. Rahm, who has yet to claim a victory in LIV Golf following his move from the PGA Tour and a reported deal worth over $300 million last year, appears to be under pressure.
It has been a challenging year for Rahm; not only did he lose his Masters title, finishing tied for 45th at the first major of the season, but he also failed to make the cut at the PGA Championship and had to withdraw from the U.S. Open due to an injury.
Rahm had to withdraw from LIV’s Houston event due to a foot injury caused by an infected cut on his toe worsening. In a sincere statement, he expressed his regret: “After consulting with several doctors and my team, I have made the decision that it is in my best interest for long-term health to pull out of this week’s US Open Championship.”
He further stated: “I cannot stress enough how disappointed I am! I extend my best wishes to all my fellow competitors and express my gratitude to the USGA staff, volunteers, and Pinehurst community for organizing what I am certain will be a fantastic championship! Hopefully, I will return to competition sooner rather than later.”
Bryson DeChambeau secured the U.S. Open victory, narrowly beating Rory McIlroy by a single stroke. He made an appearance at LIV Nashville still basking in the glory of his win. Despite the enthusiastic cheers he received at the start of the tournament, DeChambeau admitted he wasn’t feeling his best, stating: “I’m completely drained, I feel like a zombie right now.”
He expressed his gratitude for the support and the atmosphere at LIV, saying: “It’s truly an honor to be here and receive such incredible backing. This is what LIV embodies, what we’ve been striving for all along and it’s only getting better. I’m just thrilled to be a part of it.”
