Rory McIlroy’s ex-agent speaks out on Bryson DeChambeau’s future with LIV Golf

Bryson DeChambeau was a popular winner of the US Open as he saw off Rory McIlroy to claim his second major title, and the PGA Tour has been told it needs the LIV Golf star back.

The PGA Tour has received strong recommendations to exert maximum effort in reinstating Bryson DeChambeau, following his remarkable victory at the US Open held at Pinehurst No. 2.

DeChambeau’s contribution to what will be forever remembered as a historic major championship cannot be overstated. In a captivating final round in North Carolina, he narrowly defeated Rory McIlroy by a single stroke, solidifying his place in golf history. With a remarkable up-and-down for par on the final hole, DeChambeau clinched his second US Open title in a thrilling fashion.

Once regarded as golf’s polarizing figure, DeChambeau experienced a remarkable transformation throughout the tournament at Pinehurst. Winning over the crowd with his exceptional performance, the 30-year-old golfer expressed his gratitude by celebrating alongside the North Carolina spectators upon receiving the prestigious title.

DeChambeau proudly paraded the US trophy for fans near the 18th green, inviting them to feel the iconic silverware as a token of appreciation. His rising fame is bound to boost LIV Golf as they clash with the PGA Tour in the top tier of professional golf.

Even though he holds the title of US Open champion, DeChambeau is currently prohibited from participating in the PGA Tour due to his move to Saudi Arabia. Nonetheless, renowned golf agent Andrew ‘Chubby’ Chandler, who has represented top players like McIlroy and Lee Westwood in the past, believes that the Tour should reintroduce the LIV star to their lineup.

Chandler provided The Mirror with a well-defined viewpoint regarding the present state of golf. He expressed, “I would have assumed that the PGA Tour officials are considering bringing [DeChambeau] back to our tournaments as soon as possible, as he undeniably holds the top spot as the most captivating figure in golf.”

DeChambeau has also recognized the change in public opinion, observing that attitudes have significantly evolved in recent days.

Despite the negative impact on the reputations of many golfers who have joined LIV Golf, DeChambeau’s association with Greg Norman’s team appears to have had a positive effect on his standing. Chandler proposes that DeChambeau’s decision to join forces with Norman has significantly improved his public image.

The agent explained further about the influence of LIV Golf’s casual environment, stating, “I believe that due to the laid-back nature of LIV Golf, players can truly be themselves,” and continued, “Instead of pretending to be someone they’re not, like they’re trapped in a bubble. He is demonstrating that being authentic is enough.”

Chandler also commended DeChambeau’s skill in connecting with the crowd, stating, “It was truly remarkable.”

Reflecting on the golfer’s contagious passion, Chandler pondered: “I couldn’t help but consider how many youngsters would be inspired to try their hand at golf after watching him. Whether it was his idea or those around him, the concept of him celebrating with the trophy was brilliant. Everyone had the opportunity to do it in the past two decades, yet no one did. No one engaged the audience quite like he did. It was truly extraordinary.”

He praised the creative way of commemorating wins, mentioning: “I couldn’t stop thinking about how many children would be watching and thinking, ‘I want to try this’. The idea of him running with the trophy, whether it was his own or from those around him, was brilliant. Anyone could have done it in the past 20 years, but no one did. No one engaged the audience like he did. It was truly remarkable.”
