Rory McIlroy didn’t look pleased with an NBC analyst for spilling out his secret. The analyst was none other than his putting coach, Brad Faxon.
McIlroy carded a level par 70 on Saturday, June 15th, to total 4-under and secure a T2 position, trailing the leader by only three strokes after completing 54 holes at the US Open 2024. His performance at Pinehurst No. 2 has been impressive, especially in strokes gained: off the tee.
Brad Faxon of NBC revealed during Saturday’s broadcast that Rory McIlroy had a breakthrough moment last Sunday on the flight home from the Memorial Tournament. When Kira Dixon from Sky Sports inquired about this, McIlroy made a sarcastic remark directed at Faxon.
“Umm, it may be true,” he said. “I don’t know if I want to disclose it right now. I’m not sure why Fax is giving away sort of all my secrets.”
“We spend a lot of time on planes and I spend a lot of time thinking about my game when I’m in the air and sometimes things come to me,” he added.
Faxon, in addition to being Rory McIlroy’s putting coach, is knowledgeable about the golfer in ways that others may not be. Despite this, Rory McIlroy was caught off guard when Faxon disclosed his secrets to the public.
