Anthony Kim returned to the realm of golf after a hiatus of 12 years from professional tournaments. Formerly associated with the PGA Tour, Kim opted to embark on his comeback in 2024 by affiliating himself with the newly established LIV Golf Series.

Anthony Kim’s last appearance on the PGA Tour was in 2012, after which he had to undergo surgery for his Achilles tendon injury. Despite being eligible to play in the 2013 season, Kim made the decision not to return. He disappeared from the professional golf scene and was largely forgotten until his comeback in 2024.

Having now joined the LIV Golf Series, Kim is once again pursuing his career in professional golf. In a recent interview, he opened up about the challenges he faced during his time away from the sport, including undergoing rehabilitation for various issues, including his mental health. In a post on X, Kim detailed:

“Crazy 2 think where I was 11 months ago w a broke foot let alone 17 months ago not having played golf for over a decade & in rehab w multiple issues #mentalhealth included. Proud of myself & so much #gratitude 4 @livgolf_league @excrgolf @BianchetWatches 1% better 2day #girldad”

Anthony Kim details his journey back to golf after seeking professional help

Anthony Kim faced a challenging period following his decision to step away from professional golf in 2012. In an article for the Guardian, Kim shared his personal journey, revealing that he had come to terms with the possibility of never playing golf again as a result of his surgeries. Speaking about his time before he went away, he said:

“My life was already kind of going downhil. I was making poor decisions off the golf course; and obviously on, missing that many cuts.”

Kim expressed his gratitude for returning in 2024, as he had indeed faced challenges during his absence. Nevertheless, the golfer sought professional assistance and received unwavering support from his wife and daughter. Speaking about his journey, Kim said:

“But I got professional help. I think that I didn’t deal with a lot of the trauma and whatever came from my life. I buried it because I didn’t want to show anybody weakness. I thought by showing vulnerability, that was weakness. I owe a lot to my wife and to my mom, and really, mostly my daughter.”

Anthony Kim made his debut in the LIV Golf Jeddah tournament, and as anticipated, he ended up in the last position. Considering that it had been more than ten years since he last played golf, his remarkable T48 finish at LIV Golf Houston indicates clear signs of improvement.
