Davis Riley secured a significant triumph at the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge on Sunday, May 26, marking his second PGA Tour victory and his inaugural individual win. Despite facing tough competition from World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, the 27-year-old emerged victorious after a challenging battle.

Following his win at the Charles Schwab Challenge, Riley discussed the experience of being pursued by Scheffler. He expressed unease about maintaining a lead against such a skilled golfer, emphasizing the challenge posed by Scheffler’s abilities.

“It was certainly nice to start out with four shots. But you got the No. 1 player in the world breathing down your neck. Not really any shot lead is too comfortable. I knew at some point today, he was going to make a push and I expected that. And honestly, I tried to treat today as if we both started hide and I just tried to win the day.” (03:41 onwards)

Riley emerged victorious in the tournament, successfully maintaining his lead against Scottie Scheffler and securing a five-stroke margin of victory. Scheffler eventually tied with Keegan Bradley for second place, while Colin Morikawa and Sepp Straka claimed the fourth and fifth spots respectively.

Davis Riley details what he told his caddie ahead of Round 4 of Charles Schwab Challenge 2024

Davis Riley, following the conclusion of Round 3 at the Colonial Country Club, held a substantial four-stroke advantage over Scottie Scheffler. Nevertheless, Riley acknowledged that a mere four-stroke lead against Scheffler would never suffice, considering the latter’s remarkable ability to triumph over adversity, as demonstrated by his victory at the 2024 Masters.

In a subsequent media interaction after securing the win at the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge, Riley emphasized his unwavering focus leading up to Round 4. Additionally, he shared insights into the conversation he had with his caddie prior to the final round at the Colonial Country Club. Riley said:

“I told my caddy before the round, ‘I just want to be I want to get lost in the process of it. I want to just be so focused on what I’m doing, the process I’m going through, picking targets, being really detail-oriented.’ I just wanted to get lost in that and then show up on 16 to 17 and be right where I wanted to be.” (04:07 onwards)
