Adam Scott talks about Rory McIlroy’s game amid divorce proceedings – “Maybe I need to struggle a little more like him”

In the last three events that he’s played, Rory McIlroy has had two victories and a T12 finish, indicating that his season is going pretty well. However, his overall results in 2024 have been quite inconsistent.

Consequently, there has been speculation regarding the potential impact of Mcllroy’s ongoing divorce proceedings on his performance. Adam Scott was posed with a query concerning this matter during the press conference preceding the forthcoming Charles Schwab Challenge.

A journalist inquired Adam Scott about his opinion on whether Rory McIlroy was facing challenges with “everything happening off the course and away from the tournaments.” Scott responded as follows (via TenGolf):

“Maybe I need to struggle a little more like Rory [McIlroy] on the golf course! I would like to struggle like he does. If it’s affecting his play, it’s hard to see. He’s played incredibly for a long, long time.”

Adam Scott participated in 10 PGA Tour tournaments in 2024. Throughout these events, he successfully made the cut in eight of them and achieved a Top 10 finish once, specifically at the Waste Management Phoenix Open where he secured the T8 position. Additionally, he attained four other Top 25 finishes, with his performance at the Masters Tournament resulting in a T22 placement.

Before commencing his PGA Tour season, Adam Scott competed in three DP World Tour tournaments, two of which took place in his home country of Australia. Impressively, he managed to secure a Top 10 finish in all three tournaments, with a notable fourth place finish at the ISPS Handa Australian Open.

Rory McIlroy’s run so far in 2024

Rory McIlroy started the 2024 season strong by winning the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, following a second-place finish at the Dubai Invitational where he narrowly lost to Tommy Fleetwood.

Despite a T19 being his best result in his first five PGA Tour tournaments, he managed to secure a tie for third at the Valero Texas Open. However, he fell short of a top 10 finish at both the Masters and the RBC Heritage.

Rory McIlroy emerged victorious at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans alongside Shane Lowry. Shortly after, he secured another win at the Wells Fargo Championship. Although he narrowly missed the top 10 at the PGA Championship, finishing in a tie for 12th place.

McIlroy will not be participating in the Charles Schwab Challenge this week, but is anticipated to compete in the RBC Canadian Open next week, a tournament he has previously won back-to-back in 2019 and 2022.

The PGA Tour calendar includes two important tournaments following the Canadian Open: the Memorial Tournament (7th Signature Event of the season) and the US Open (3rd major of the season). McIlroy is expected to compete in both tournaments.
