Xander Schauffele’s dad says his son will never join LIV Golf even if they ‘throw hundreds of millions of dollars’ – “He is not chasing the money”

Xander Schauffele’s initial triumph in a Major tournament is expected to significantly increase his desirability among golf enthusiasts. This achievement might even give rise to speculations about his potential move to LIV Golf. It is common for golfers, regardless of the veracity, to become the subject of such rumors at some stage. However, Schauffele’s father has already dismissed this notion, firmly asserting that his son will not depart for the Saudi-backed circuit.

He said (via NUCLR GOLF):

“No chance. Xander is not chasing the money. Xander is about legacy. And as my opinion… just as his father… there was never a chance.”

Schauffele’s father continued:

“What we told LIV in Saudi Arabia, with Xander beside me, was that if there is no path back to the PGA Tour & if there is no chance at World Ranking points we do not have anything to talk about. Even if you throw hundreds of millions of dollars at him. That word still stands. I am not called The Ogre without reason. I keep my word.”

Currently, LIV does not possess any OWGR ranking points. Consequently, Schauffele, who ascended to the second position in the world rankings following his triumph at the PGA Championship, would be unable to compete for the top spot and is expected to experience a significant decline in his ranking.

In contrast, Jon Rahm held the second rank before his departure, and he has plummeted to seventh place in the months that have passed since then. It is highly likely that this downward spiral will persist.

Another concern revolves around the route back to the PGA Tour. Many are speculating that the merger could potentially address this concern, however, currently, there is no definite method to depart for LIV, secure a lucrative contract, and subsequently return to the Tour. This is a significant concern for the Schauffele family.

Schauffele may receive a huge contract from LIV, but without OWGR points or a clear path back, it might not make a difference in the end.

Xander Schauffele ousts LIV player for first Major win

Xander Schauffele may not have qualified for LIV Golf, however, he was in a close competition with a player from that tour on Sunday. Throughout the final round, he and Bryson DeChambeau were consistently just a few strokes apart.

This remained the case until the 18th hole, where DeChambeau birdied to tie with Schauffele, creating suspense as to whether Schauffele would par out or potentially bogey.

As they approached the 18th hole, Schauffele and DeChambeau were deadlocked and ready for an exciting playoff. DeChambeau momentarily stopped his warm-up swings to observe the crucial moment that could secure his victory.

However, Schauffele made a remarkable recovery with a fantastic shot, setting himself up for an easy birdie putt that he confidently sank. DeChambeau praised Schauffele’s performance, acknowledging that he played exceptionally well under pressure.

“He’s an amazing golfer and well-deserved Major champion now. He’s played well for a long, long time.”

DeChambeau and Xander Schauffele have both secured a Major title, with DeChambeau claiming victory at the 2020 U.S. Open.
