It had previously been reported that Dustin Johnson injured himself during a practice round, but it appears that the LIV Golf star actually pulled his back while in the bedroom with wife Paulina Gretzky.
Dustin Johnson has reportedly admitted to sustaining a back injury earlier this year as a result of an incident that occurred in the bedroom with his wife, Paulina Gretzky.
Johnson, who is 38 years old, is back in action and getting ready for the upcoming US PGA Championship at Oak Hill. When he got injured in February, it was initially reported that the LIV Golf star had hurt his back while playing a practice round, which led to his withdrawal from a tournament in Jeddah.
However, during a press conference on Wednesday, Johnson surprised everyone by revealing the true cause of his injury, leaving a reporter completely stunned. “I actually just pulled a muscle in my lower back,” the American golfer explained. The reporter then followed up with a question, asking if it happened while swinging a club or lifting up a kid. Johnson couldn’t help but break into a big grin in response.
Johnson chuckled in response, shaking his head slightly. “Carrying a child… a larger child,” the 38-year-old remarked, causing laughter to erupt among those in the press room as Johnson glanced around awkwardly.
“I have nothing more to say,” the reporter replied, as another confessed, “I’m at a loss for words after that.”
Pauline, the wife of Paul, is the daughter of the renowned former Canadian hockey player Wayne Gretzky, who is widely regarded as the greatest of all time in his sport. The couple tied the knot in Tennessee in April of last year, after dating since 2013 and being acquainted for four years prior.
Johnson and Gretzky are proud parents to two sons. Their firstborn, Tatum, came into the world in 2015, followed by their younger son, River, in 2017.
Their father, who is an avid golfer, has a history of back issues. In 2012, he had to sit out the first two months of the season, including The Masters, due to an injury sustained at home.
Fast forward five years, he missed The Masters again after a fall down the stairs at a rental home in Augusta. Despite being a four-time major winner, he has yet to secure a PGA Championship title. Winning this tournament would mark him as the first LIV Golf player to achieve this feat.
Johnson clinched his second victory in his eventful LIV career just recently, by sinking a birdie on the opening play-off hole to outshine Cameron Smith and Branden Grace. This triumph earned him the prestigious LIV Golf Tulsa title. However, the tournament, which is supported by Saudi Arabia, remains a subject of controversy within the golfing community due to its association with a nation known for its questionable human rights practices.
