Date Set For Scottie Scheffler Court Hearing After Arrest

An arraignment hearing has been set for Tuesday 21 May at 9am following the incident that led to Scheffler’s arrest outside Valhalla.

Prior to the start of the second round of the PGA Championship, Scottie Scheffler, the top-ranked player in the world, was taken into custody upon his arrival at Valhalla. Allegedly, the arrest stemmed from a miscommunication regarding traffic patterns following a previous accident.

He was eventually accused of “assaulting a police officer in the second degree, causing criminal damage in the third degree, driving recklessly, and ignoring traffic signals given by an officer.”

Although there was uncertainty about Scheffler’s ability to continue his pursuit of a third Major title, he managed to make a timely return to the course and play his second round.

Despite the unforeseen occurrences at the beginning of the day, Scheffler, who recorded a remarkable four-under 67 in the initial round, continues to be in close proximity to the leaders on the scoreboard. His pursuit of securing his first PGA Championship title, following his triumph at The Masters in April, remains firmly on course.

However, if Scheffler does manage to claim the Wanamaker Trophy on Sunday evening, his jubilant celebrations are expected to be brief. This is due to the fact that, as stated in official court documents, his arraignment hearing is scheduled for Tuesday morning at 9am.

Dan Rapaport from Barstool Sports provided further information on the potential next actions. In his statement on X, he mentioned that he had a conversation with a defense attorney from Louisville. According to the attorney, the judge would have been informed about the arrest earlier today and would have determined the bond amount.

The fact that they released Scheffler indicates that they believed there was minimal risk of him not appearing when required. The attorney also found it peculiar that someone would be charged with a felony, made to change into a jumpsuit, have a mugshot taken, and then be released.
