“That would be kind of cool”: Brooks Koepka looking to repeat back-to-back wins at the PGA Championship and US Open

Like everyone else in the golf world, Brooks Koepka has his eyes fixed on the PGA Championship, which is less than a week and a half away. Koepka will be one of the most closely watched players at Valhalla Golf Club, as he is no less than the defending champion.

Brooks Koepka clinched his third PGA Championship title, securing back-to-back victories in 2018 and 2019. The media took notice of his chance to achieve this remarkable feat once again during the 2024 tournament.

During the press conference held at the recently concluded LIV Golf Singapore, Brooks Koepka shared his thoughts on his back-to-back major victories:

“I’ve gone back to back at the PGA [Championship] and the US Open. Hopefully looking to do it again, I don’t know if it’s ever been done but that’d be kind of a cool thing.”

Brooks Koepka stands out as one of the two players who have achieved the remarkable feat of winning two consecutive editions of the PGA Championship. The only other golfer to accomplish this extraordinary feat is none other than the legendary Tiger Woods.

Tiger Woods has set the bar high by successfully defending his title twice at the PGA Championship, a record that Brooks Koepka will aim to match in 2024. Woods achieved this by winning in 2000 and 2001, then again in 2006 and 2007.

Brooks Koepka has also made history at the U.S. Open, becoming the seventh player to achieve back-to-back victories in 2017 and 2018. This exclusive club includes Curtis Strange (1988 – 1989), Ben Hogan (1950 – 1951), Ralph Guldahl (1937 – 1938), Bobby Jones (1929 – 1930), John McDermoth (1911 – 1912), and the legendary William Anderson, who won three consecutive titles in 1903, 1904, and 1905.

Koepka boasts an impressive track record at the PGA Championship, clinching three victories, one runner-up finish, and two additional top 5 placements. He has maintained a perfect record of never missing the cut in this tournament, with his lowest finish being T70 in 2013.

Brooks Koepka’s 2024 season, heading to the PGA Championship

Before participating in LIV Golf Singapore, Koepka expressed apprehension regarding the caliber of his performance. he said (via LIV Golf news service):

“Clearly not very good, with Augusta the way that it went. I kind of felt like I wasted all the time from December until then. Just keep grinding away, keep doing the work, and hopefully something will turn around.”

Prior to that moment, Koepka’s performance at LIV Golf had only resulted in two top 10 finishes, whereas at The Masters he concluded at T45.

However, in Adelaide, Koepka showcased a glimpse of his potential by securing 10th place. Just a week later, he triumphed in the Singapore event in a remarkable manner, achieving scores of -5, -7, and -3, ultimately finishing with a remarkable score of 15 under par.

Koepka finished fifth in the individual standings for the 2024 season in LIV Golf. Despite this, his incredible form has led him to win five majors in only 11 seasons of his professional career (2024 being his 12th).
