Phil Mickelson reveals LIV Golf will continue to take PGA Tour players

Phil Mickelson hints LIV Golf is not yet done raiding the PGA Tour.

In 2025, Phil Mickelson has utilized social media to disclose that additional ‘exceptional players’ from the PGA Tour will be joining LIV Golf.

LIV Golf made headlines in the sports world in late 2023 by announcing the signing of former World No.1 and two-time major champion Jon Rahm.

Rahm has reportedly agreed to a five-year contract valued at $600 million.

Rahm has not yet secured a solo championship in the initial portion of the LIV Golf season.

Several notable champions such as Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, Cameron Smith, Sergio Garcia, and Patrick Reed have all transitioned from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf in recent years.

Mickelson, who reportedly signed a $200m deal with LIV Golf in 2022, predicts that more top PGA Tour players will make the move to the Saudi-backed circuit by the end of this season.

Brooks Koepka, the inaugural player to secure four LIV Golf titles last Sunday, recently reaffirmed that LIV Golf will continue to operate independently, regardless of potential collaboration with the PGA Tour by its financial backers, the Saudi Public Investment Fund.

Numerous voices within the industry have urged for a reconciliation between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf to reunite the top players, reminiscent of the gathering witnessed at The Masters tournament last month.

The PGA Tour is working hard to retain its top players, offering $20m signature events and a new billion-dollar equity pot to recognize their success on and off the course.

This achievement was made achievable thanks to an investment agreement with Strategic Sports Group (SSG) earlier in the current season.

It remains uncertain which PGA Tour players might decide to join LIV Golf for the 2025 season, but it seems that European Ryder Cup star Viktor Hovland is now the frontrunner to be the next player to sign up for the independent league.

Over the course of the last year, there has been significant speculation connecting Tony Finau and Wyndham Clark to LIV Golf.

All three players mentioned have pledged their loyalty to the PGA Tour, so it would come as quite a shock if any of them decide to switch over to LIV Golf in the near future.

However, didn’t Mr. Rahm express his contentment on the PGA Tour approximately a year ago?

In response to Flushing It’s tweet about the future of major exemptions for LIV Golf players, Mickelson expressed his belief that more ‘great players’ would join the breakaway league in the years to come.

Lefty posted on Twitter: “Perhaps a few LIV players won’t be missed. However, what if NOT A SINGLE LIV player participated? Would they be missed then? What about in the upcoming year when additional talented players come on board? Or the year after that? Eventually, they will have to take responsibility and be held accountable to sponsors and television networks.”
