The six-time PGA Tour winner thanked his supporters on social media as he celebrated five years of being sober.
Chris Kirk expressed his gratitude to his supporters while commemorating five years of sobriety this week.
The professional golfer, who has won six times on the PGA Tour, expressed his gratitude on Instagram for reaching the milestone of five years of sobriety.
He thanked everyone who supported him throughout his journey, emphasizing that although the journey continues, he now lives a life filled with peace and contentment that he never thought achievable.
Kirk, who has achieved a career-high ranking of 16th in the world, has openly shared his journey of recovery. In May 2019, he took a break from the game to seek assistance for his battle with depression and alcoholism.
After a six-month hiatus, the 38-year-old returned to the tour and has garnered a strong following, as his story has struck a chord with numerous individuals. In recognition of his remarkable resilience and determination, he was honored with the PGA Tour’s Courage Award last year.
His performance on the field has also improved recently, with victories at The Honda Classic in February 2023 and The Sentry in January of this year, both within a span of less than 12 months.
After winning The Sentry, he reiterated his battles with depression and alcoholism, revealing that he had reached a point where he “lost interest in most aspects of life” and emphasized how getting sober rescued his professional life.
Kirk expressed his gratitude as he marked his five-year anniversary on Monday, emphasizing how thankful he remains for overcoming his challenges.
In an Instagram video, Kirk joyfully announced, “Greetings everyone, it’s April 29th and I am commemorating five years of living a sober life.” Reflecting on his past, he shared, “Half a decade ago, I was utterly devoid of hope and couldn’t envision a path towards recovery. Fortunately, I crossed paths with a remarkable group of individuals who had once experienced the same hopelessness as me, and they guided me towards a brighter future.”
Kirk passionately expressed, “Every positive aspect, every remarkable achievement, and every incredible experience that fills my life today is solely attributed to my decision to embrace sobriety. May God bless you all, and may you have a splendid day.”
