“I thought I was done for the week” – Jordan Spieth’s tendon pops out at RBC Heritage

Jordan Spieth almost quit the RBC Heritage in round one on Thursday when a tendon in his wrist “popped out” while shooting a greenside bunker shot on hole 13 at Hilton Island.

In the midst of a follow-through, Speith forcefully collided his left wrist with the bunker bulkhead, resulting in the displacement of his ECU (extensor carpi ulnaris) tendon. This incident marked the most recent addition to a string of complications faced by the esteemed three-time Major champion.

Jordan Spieth stated that it was a recurring occurrence, and fortunately, he was fortunate enough that it usually emerges and he can maneuver it (to the left), preventing any mishaps. The ECU tendon slipped out momentarily but swiftly returned to its proper position.

“On 14 yesterday, I thought I was done for the week. Then (the tendon) came back in, and I was like, ‘All right, I’m good,’’ said Jordan Spieth as quoted by golf.com.

Jordan Spieth’s injury and more

In May of last year, Spieth departed from the Byron Nelson tournament, only to make a comeback the following week to participate in the PGA Championship. However, in an unexpected turn of events at the Hero World Challenge in November, he revealed that he had once again injured his wrist.

“I was reaching for a toaster to make my son breakfast, and I was just supporting it on the shelf. It made — in other words, everything was — it took the fall for other things that were off and it just made no sense because I’m like, what’s going to prevent this from happening at any other point in time. But I was very shocked when I re-injured it,” said Jordan Spieth as quoted by golf.com.

Jordan made sure to keep the tendon in place by preventing it from coming out. Despite bogeying the 13th hole, he managed to finish with five straight pars, ending the round at 1-under 70. Between rounds, he received therapy on his wrist and had it bandaged before his Friday afternoon tee time to ensure the tendon stayed put.

On Friday, Spieth expressed satisfaction with the condition of his wrist as he achieved a commendable 4-under 67 score, encountering no difficulties. Consequently, he made the decision to don a bandage around his wrist for the duration of the weekend.

Jordan Spieth didn’t seem worried about his injury. He mentioned that the primary concern was not giving the injury sufficient time to heal. Unfortunately, Spieth won’t be participating in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans next week.
