Patrick Reed rants about how bad he is at Masters before immediately contradicting himself

LIV Golf rebel Patrick Reed entered the third round level par on Saturday but could only muster a 73 to begin his final round on Sunday 1-over – and he let his displeasure be known.

Patrick Reed expressed dissatisfaction with his performance during the third round of the Masters, labeling it as terrible, but then praised his exceptional chipping skills.

The LIV Golf rebel had a score of 73 on Saturday, which put him at 1-over for the tournament and eight shots behind leader Scottie Scheffler. Reed was among the few golfers who managed to shoot under par on Friday, despite the terrible conditions, positioning himself well for the weekend.

However, it’s ironic that Reed performed worse in better conditions. The bogey he made at the 18th hole must have been especially disappointing for the 33-year-old. After finishing his round, Reed was asked to assess his performance for the day. He responded honestly before launching into a passionate rant.

He expressed his dissatisfaction with a stern tone, exclaiming, “Terrible! You inquired, and honestly, I didn’t perform well in any aspect today. My driving was subpar, my iron shots were all over the place, and I couldn’t accurately determine my yardage. And when I finally did calculate the yardage, I ended up hitting the ball above the hole. Consequently, I had to adopt a defensive putting strategy throughout the entire day.

However, I must acknowledge one positive aspect. I achieved a personal milestone by successfully hitting a 4-iron into the 17th hole for the first time, and with the assistance of a tailwind. Nevertheless, there were no other redeeming qualities from today’s performance. I suppose the only silver lining is that I managed to avoid making a double bogey. That was the extent of it.”

Yes, it proved to be quite a frustrating day. It was one of those days where every time I hit a good golf shot, I found myself with a challenging putt above the hole. Consequently, I had to adopt a defensive approach, dealing with the most breaking and fastest putts.

When you are faced with such circumstances, particularly in the late afternoon, the greens become firmer and more glassy, making it incredibly difficult to sink putts. This struggle was evident among our entire group today. We were just discussing it a moment ago, and as a group, we only managed to achieve five birdies. Furthermore, we were only able to make two birdies on par-5s collectively.

Around here, you really need to take advantage of these par-5s. The only one that’s truly tough today is 15, especially with the wind against you from the back tee. It felt like the wind picked up as soon as we reached that hole. No chance of reaching the green in two shots.

Yeah, it was a tough day, especially with that far left pin placement on 18. You have to either hit the perfect wedge shot or take a risk and hope for the best. It was frustrating, but you never know what tomorrow will bring.

Despite admitting that his overall performance was subpar, Reed found comfort in his exceptional short game, which bailed him out of trouble multiple times. When questioned about finding solace in his chipping skills during a challenging round, he responded, “Yes, my chipping is exceptional.

It’s the only aspect of my game that’s somewhat decent at the moment. I believe I can successfully recover from difficult positions around the green. Despite the tough conditions yesterday, I managed to shoot a decent score by relying on my short game. I only hit eight greens but still finished 2-under par, which is quite satisfying.”

On a day like today, starting off on the 1st hole, I felt confident with my precise driving skills that I’ve been excelling at lately. However, as I stepped up to take my shot, I miscalculated and ended up hitting the ball straight into the trees, causing it to bounce back towards me. It was definitely one of those frustrating days on the golf course. Although my fairway accuracy seemed decent according to the stats, every time I missed a fairway, it had a significant impact on my overall performance. I also struggled with a few inaccurate iron shots and had a hard time sinking putts. Despite feeling like I made solid putts, they just didn’t find their way into the hole.

The speed today was noticeably faster compared to yesterday due to the drying out of the surface and the progression into the afternoon. Unfortunately, I struggled to find the right rhythm and kept hitting the ball too short and with a popping motion, rather than smoothly. This was likely due to the recent speed variations over the past couple of days. Despite these challenges, I managed to make most of my shots, which I am grateful for.

As for my position in the tournament, I am uncertain. I am not satisfied with where I currently stand. However, there is still a chance for improvement if I can shoot a low score tomorrow. A strong finish could potentially elevate my position, although it seems that the leaders are not making significant moves at the moment.
