Norwegian Viktor Hovland has met with LIV Golf stars like Jon Rahm and Brooks Koepka at the Masters and spoke honestly about how it was to reunite with those players.
Viktor Hovland expressed his satisfaction in reuniting with the players of LIV Golf, acknowledging that he has even felt the absence of a few of them.
The Norwegian golfer has previously shared his genuine thoughts about LIV, stating that joining the breakaway tour would not enhance his skills as a golfer. However, he has maintained a gracious attitude towards his former colleagues who have chosen to join the Saudi breakaway league.
Hovland, like numerous PGA Tour stars, has been accompanied by a group of LIV players during the Masters this week. When questioned about the camaraderie between the two groups, Hovland responded, “Yeah, a bit. I didn’t have the chance to see many guys yesterday.
I did catch sight of a few and it was pleasant to have a brief chat. However, my focus is primarily on my preparations while they are engrossed in theirs.”
I miss playing against some of the guys out there, and I’m looking forward to meeting them on the course again. It’s always great to compete against each other and I hope everyone watching at home will enjoy seeing us play.
Version 1: I miss competing against a few of the guys out there, and I’m excited to have the opportunity to face off against them once more. It’s always fun to play against each other, and I hope everyone watching at home will enjoy seeing us in action.
Earlier this year, he expressed a shift in his perspective, stating: “My views have evolved on this matter as I now understand the importance of unity in golf. A weakened PGA Tour or any other tour would not benefit anyone involved. It is crucial for both parties to work together and progress collectively for the betterment of the sport. In my opinion, the sooner we reunite and strive to create the strongest fields possible, the more beneficial it will be for golf.”
Since Jay Monahan and Yasir Al Rumayyan came together to declare a ceasefire between the two conflicting groups, there has been minimal progress. Unfortunately, Jon Rahm’s unexpected departure to the Saudi breakaway league has only deepened the divide.
Last month, a meeting between Monahan and Al Rumayyan occurred in the Bahamas, and even Tiger Woods was present. Although Monahan provided an update to the PGA’s players, he refrained from providing any substantial information.
Monahan wrote in the email that the discussion was productive and plays a crucial role in our thorough assessment process for choosing potential investors for PGA Tour Enterprises. He mentioned that this aligns with the method we used earlier this year when reviewing an investment proposal from the Strategic Sports Group. Yasir had the opportunity during the meeting to introduce himself to our player directors and discuss his vision, priorities, and reasons for investing in professional golf.
If the PGA Tour does not expedite its merger plans, the aspirations of Hovland and McIlroy to witness the top players in the world competing against each other will face a growing jeopardy. Moreover, LIV has demonstrated its willingness in the past to offer higher financial incentives to players in order to enhance its allure.
