“It’s going to open up more opportunities” – Phil Mickelson expresses confidence in golf’s future amid the game’s ‘transitional state’

Phil Mickelson is confident that the controversy between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf will be resolved positively, not just for professional players but for golf in general.

During his press conference prior to the LIV Golf Miami event, which is scheduled to take place at Trump National Doral in Miami from April 5-7, the six-time Major champion addressed the present condition of men’s professional golf.

Here is part of what Phil Mickelson had to say (via ESPN):

“I don’t know how it’s going to end out, exactly, or what it’s going to look like. I’m putting my trust in Yasir and where the game is headed more globally. But at some point, when it gets ironed out, I think it’s going to be in a much better place where we bring the best players from the world, and it’s going to open up more opportunities for manufacturing, course design, for players in different parts of the world to be inspired and enter the game. I think it’s going to be in a much better place.”

“But right now, we are in the disruption phase, so we are in the middle of the process. And when it’s all said and done, it’s going to be a lot brighter. But while we go through it, it’s challenging. But we’ll get there.”

Earlier this week, Rory McIlroy expressed similar sentiments. During an interview with Golf Monthly, the golfer from Northern Ireland asserted that the present condition of men’s professional golf is not viable in the long run.

How is the 2024 season going for Phil Mickelson?

Phil Mickelson, a prominent golfer, is among the 13 talented players from LIV Golf who have secured their spots in the Masters 2024. Mickelson’s exceptional skills have earned him victory in the event three times, specifically in 2004, 2006, and 2010, granting him a lifelong invitation to this prestigious tournament.

As the Masters approaches, Mickelson will be making his way to the tournament after participating in five LIV Golf events, including the upcoming LIV Golf Miami, commencing on April 5. Throughout his golfing journey, ‘Lefty’ has showcased his prowess, achieving a top 10 finish in one of the previous four tournaments.

During the first tournament of the season, LIV Golf Mayakoba, Phil Mickelson secured the 53rd position with a score of 11 over. Moving on to Las Vegas, he participated in another tournament and finished 31st with a score of 2 under.

In the third tournament of the year held in Jeddah, Mickelson achieved an impressive 9th place with a score of 10 under. This outstanding performance marks his best result on the circuit since he finished eighth in the Chicago event back in 2022. However, in the subsequent tournament in Hong Kong, ‘Lefty’ landed in the 53rd spot with a score of 8 over.

The HyFlyers GC team, led by Mickelson, currently holds the last position in the league standings, ranking 13th. Their most notable achievement was securing the eighth spot in Jeddah, whereas they attained the 10th position in Mayakoba, 13th in Las Vegas, and 12th in Hong Kong.
