The 48-year-old is set to make an extraordinary return to action in August having been working towards a comeback for months.
Tiger Woods, the renowned legend, is gearing up for an exceptional comeback at The Masters scheduled for next week. Following a seven-month hiatus due to an injury sustained during last year’s Major tournament, he is determined to make a remarkable return to the sport.
Although he made a brief comeback during the winter, his full return to the PGA Tour was unfortunately cut short when he had to withdraw from the Genesis Invitational in February due to illness. However, earlier this month, he made a comeback by participating in the Seminole Pro-Member event alongside esteemed golfers Rory McIlroy and Tom Brady. Adding to the anticipation, Tiger Woods recently played a practice round at Augusta National, subtly hinting at his potential return to compete for a sixth Green Jacket.
The golfer, who has won the Masters five times and a total of 15 major championships, has set his sights on participating in this year’s tournament in Augusta. In order to prepare, he has been hitting the gym at 4am, dedicating himself to achieving the best possible position. In November, former PGA Tour player Brandel Chamblee revealed that Woods had been sending messages to his rivals, demonstrating his determination to make a strong comeback this year. According to Chamblee, Woods had been texting various stars in the early hours, around 4am, to update them on his progress and showcase his relentless efforts to regain his position at the top.
As per The Mirror US, Woods’ text message stated: “I am currently at the gym. How are you working on improving yourself?” Despite admitting to feeling a bit out of practice since 2023, Tigers is already preparing for the major tournament at Augusta course alongside renowned players such as Brooks Koepka, Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm, and McIlroy. Following the monitoring of his flights to Augusta by some avid fans, Sports Illustrated reports that he had a game with club chairman Fred Ridley and Justin Thomas.
It appears that Woods is eager to participate in the competition, despite it being only his second game of the year. Although his chances of winning a sixth Masters title are slim, this tournament provides him with the opportunity to surpass the consecutive cut records of golf legends Gary Player and Fred Couples.
Since winning his first Green Jacket in 1997, Woods has consistently made the cut for every tournament, and even though he has only competed once on tour this year, he remains optimistic about playing in more events throughout the year.
It seems fair to have a monthly schedule. This way, I have ample time to recuperate for a couple of weeks and fine-tune myself for another week. Perhaps I can find my groove this way. Thankfully, my ankle is no longer in pain as the bones are no longer rubbing against each other. However, on the flip side, different parts of my body have to bear the impact, similar to how my back is fused, and consequently, other parts of my body have to endure that strain.
