Fernando Alonso: Aston Martin will not appeal Spaniard’s penalty given after George Russell crash

Aston Martin will not appeal the penalty against Fernando Alonso at last weekend’s Australian Grand Prix for “potentially dangerous” driving.

The double world champion received a 20-second penalty, causing him to fall from sixth to eighth place in Melbourne.

He unexpectedly braked early while approaching turn six at Albert Park during the second-to-last lap, resulting in a collision with Mercedes driver George Russell, who was closely trailing behind.

Mike Krack, the CEO of Aston Martin, acknowledged the team’s need to “acknowledge and embrace the verdict.”

Aston Martin CEO Mike Krack expressed his complete backing for Fernando in a heartfelt message to fans on social media.

It’s tough to accept a 20-second time penalty without any contact with the car behind, but we must respect the ruling.

Alonso, aged 42, admitted to stewards that he had made a mistake, however, he expressed his surprise at the decision on social media.

Russell, a 26-year-old British driver, unfortunately lost control of his car and found himself in a precarious situation with his vehicle on its side in the center of the track. As a result, the race had to conclude under the supervision of a virtual safety car.

Krack mentioned that Alonso had utilized all his resources to secure a lead over Russell and assured that the Spanish driver would never endanger anyone’s safety.
