Jordan Spieth was reportedly not too pleased with Sky Sports’ on-course reporter Wayne ‘Radar’ Riley during the opening round of the Players.
Jordan Spieth expressed his dissatisfaction with Sky Sports’ on-course reporter Wayne ‘Radar’ Riley during the initial round of the Players Championship.
According to the man himself, he mentioned during the broadcast on Thursday morning that Spieth ‘completely lost it with me’.
During the broadcast, Riley referred to these fiery golfers, mentioning the incident when Spieth supposedly lost his cool.
Let’s go back a bit, the tense moment happened when Spieth’s golfing buddy, Rory McIlroy, faced some trouble on the 18th hole.
McIlroy began his round on the back nine at TPC Sawgrass and got off to a strong start, making four birdies in his first five holes.
When he finally arrived at the 18th hole, McIlroy had an impressive score of 6-under par. However, his tee shot unfortunately ended up in the water.
Unsure of where exactly his ball crossed into the hazard, he decided to have a lengthy discussion with Spieth and Viktor Hovland on the tee box.
McIlroy ultimately decided against taking a re-load from the tee and instead took his third shot from the spot where he thought his ball had crossed.
Riley, who was with the group, thought he had a pretty good idea of where McIlroy’s ball went missing.
Riley was seen gesturing and raising his hands before moving out of the way in the footage.
Riley mentioned during the live broadcast that he was instructed to indicate where it crossed, which led to Jordan becoming furious with him.
He asked, “Radar, how do you know? Where were you positioned?” All I can do is provide an answer. These golfers can be quite temperamental!
McIlroy was able to secure a decent bogey five even though he had 293 yards to the pin for his third shot.
Riley, on his part, asserted that he had no intention of getting involved, but simply provided his opinion when he was requested to do so.
“I am not entirely sure why Jordan Spieth is involving me in this matter,” he further stated.
