TAMPA — Oswald Peraza had a renewal of shoulder pain after playing Tuesday and Wednesday and was expected to undergo imaging to determine the extent of the injury, Aaron Boone told The Post.
Peraza departed Steinbrenner Field in casual attire around midday on Thursday, while his teammates were arriving for a practice session and later a game against the Tigers.
Boone mentioned that Peraza informed him in the morning about his shoulder issue resurfacing.
Despite this, the Yankees manager maintained that he did not view the injury as a significant concern.
Peraza missed playing time from February 25 until Tuesday due to shoulder tightness. He was positioned at second base on Tuesday and shortstop on Wednesday.
Brian Cashman chose not to reply to a text message regarding Peraza’s status.
The 23-year-old Peraza was not guaranteed a spot on the roster, even if he had been healthy.
The Yankees have expressed their preference for him to receive regular playing time at Triple-A instead of being a utility infielder with limited appearances in the major leagues.
However, it is evident that any additional injury, no matter how minor, would hinder his chances of making it onto the Yankees roster.
Oswaldo Cabrera is a potential backup infielder, while Kevin Smith is still in camp as a non-roster invitee competing for a spot.
