RORY MCILROY: “I’M NOT GOING TO STAND UP HERE AND COMPLAIN”

Rory McIlroy says he was glad to finish off the Cognizant Classic on Sunday as it gave him the opportunity to play in a very special event.

Rory McIlroy expressed his relief at being able to complete his final round at the Cognizant Classic on Sunday, allowing him to spend time with his father on ‘the most important day of his year’.

The PGA Tour event had to extend into Monday due to adverse weather conditions at PGA National.

Some golf enthusiasts were upset with the scheduling decisions made by tournament organizers, especially considering the predicted weather.

McIlroy would have been disappointed if he had to play for a fifth consecutive day and couldn’t participate in the Seminole Pro-Member event alongside his father Gerry.

The prestigious competition is open to top-tier athletes, famous personalities, and wealthy entrepreneurs.

Tiger Woods is set to make his debut in the tournament this year.

This will mark his return to the game following his absence from the Genesis Invitational due to illness.

Joining Woods in the event will be Seth Waugh, the CEO of the PGA of America.

Rory McIlroy expressed his disappointment with the Cognizant Classic, considering it a missed opportunity that continued a pattern from his previous tournaments in 2024.

The golfer began the year impressively in the Middle East by securing his fourth victory at the Dubai Desert Classic.

However, he faced a setback at the Dubai Invitational, narrowly missing out on a win due to a poor tee shot on the final hole.

Transitioning to the PGA Tour, McIlroy finished T-66 at the rain-affected AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and later tied for 24th place at Riviera.

McIlroy showcased his dominance in driving once more this week, although he did experience some inconsistencies with his irons.

Additionally, he encountered a setback when his ball landed in the water.

Despite these challenges, McIlroy managed to complete the final round with a score of 3-under 68, concluding the week with a total of 10-under.

Nevertheless, the delay in play resulted in a quick transition for him.

He expressed his joy in completing his tasks for the day as it allows him to join his father on his most significant day of the year at Seminole.

“I believe this is the life I desired. It is the life I have requested. I have no intention of complaining about it.

“This is my chosen path. I enjoy being occupied.”

When asked about how he manages his hectic schedule, McIlroy responded, “There is no one who appreciates being me more than myself, so that is the mindset I prefer to adopt.

“I am occupied, but I relish being occupied when it involves activities that I genuinely want to pursue.”
