Niemann leads the way with 18 holes to play at LIV Golf Jeddah

Joaquín Niemann continued his stunning run of form by firing a six under par 64 at LIV Golf Jeddah to open up a two shot lead ahead of tomorrow’s final round at Royal Greens Golf & Country Club.

Niemann’s impressive performance has persisted as he continues to excel in recent tournaments. He secured victory in LIV Golf’s inaugural event in Mayakoba last month and has consistently achieved top-five finishes in his last five Official World Golf Ranking events, including another triumph at the ISPS Handa Australian Open.

This week in Saudi Arabia, the 25-year-old golfer maintained his exceptional form by following up his outstanding seven under 63 from yesterday with a flawless six under 66 today. As a result, he currently leads Charl Schwartzel by a two-shot margin.

Schwartzel, the South African golfer who emerged victorious in LIV Golf’s first-ever event at the Centurion Club in 2022, also performed admirably with a four under par 66. His contribution helped Stinger GC secure the top spot on the team leaderboard with one round remaining.

Reflecting on his performance, Niemann expressed his satisfaction, stating, “It was a fantastic day today.” Notably, he received a special invitation from Augusta National last week to compete in the prestigious Masters tournament.

I began the day with seven consecutive pars, which was not as impressive as my strong start yesterday. However, I gradually improved my game as the day progressed.

I am particularly pleased with my performance in the last few holes, as it demonstrates my positive progress.

Jason Kokrak put himself in a position to potentially secure his first individual victory on LIV Golf. He achieved this by shooting an exceptional eight under par 62, which was the best round of the day. As a result, he is now tied for third place with Louis Oosthuizen, who carded a 66.

Adrian Meronk, a resident of Dubai, had a less impressive day with his putter compared to his performance in the first round. He posted a score of one under par 69, placing him in a tie for fifth position alongside Jon Rahm, Abraham Ancer, and Lucas Herbert.

Anthony Kim, in his inaugural professional appearance in over a decade, recorded 11 straight pars to conclude his round following a challenging start where he played the first seven holes at six over par. The golfer, who has secured victory on the PGA Tour three times, currently holds the 54th spot. Despite this, his performance notably improved as he appeared to be hitting the ball more effectively today, recovering from his initial struggles.
