Golf legend Bernhard Langer out of The Masters but will attempt to make 2025 his last as a competitor.
Bernhard Langer, the renowned golf icon, unfortunately won’t be participating in The Masters this April. The news was shared with Garrett Johnson, the host of ‘Beyond the Clubhouse’.
Langer, who is 66 years old, had set his sights on making the 2024 Masters his last memorable appearance at the prestigious Augusta National from 11-14 April.
However, his plans were derailed when he suffered a torn Achilles tendon during a training session in late January.
Langer expressed in a statement that he will be undergoing surgery promptly to address the injury.
After a successful surgery in February, Bernhard Langer informed golf reporter Johnston this weekend that his rehabilitation period will prevent him from participating in the upcoming Masters tournament in Georgia in April.
I had a conversation with Bernhard Langer, who mentioned that due to his recent surgery for a torn Achilles tendon, he will unfortunately have to miss the Masters next month. This would have been his final appearance.
The expected recovery time for Langer is estimated to be between 4 to 6 months following his surgery on February 2nd.
Langer, who claimed victory at Augusta National in 1985 and 1993, intends to retire from competitive play after the 2025 Masters tournament.
Due to his previous wins, he has the option to participate in the prestigious event for as long as he desires.
Langer has decided to make his last appearance at Augusta during the 2025 Masters.
If he participates in the tournament next year, it will be his 41st time competing.
Johnston tweeted on 2 March:
“Spoke w/Bernhard Langer who confirmed that his recovery from surgery on his torn Achilles tendon forces him to skip next month’s Masters. What would have been his last. His recovery is 4-6 months from surgery on Feb 2. Will plan to make 2025 his final Masters as a competitor.”
Langer has the opportunity to compete in the upcoming US Open at Pinehurst from 13-16 June this year, provided he makes a full recovery in time.
However, his chances are uncertain due to the limited timeframe for recovery.
Langer’s eligibility for the 2024 US Open stems from his victory as the reigning champion of the US Senior Open.
In 2023, he secured his second US Senior Open title by defeating Steve Stricker with a two-stroke lead at SentryWorld.
