Tiger Woods’ stance on LIV Golf rebels returning to PGA Tour after ghosting Jon Rahm text message

Jon Rahm revealed he reached out to Tiger Woods after deciding to join LIV Golf last December, but after sending a text message he received no response from the PGA Tour legend.

Jon Rahm will be delighted to learn that Tiger Woods and the PGA Tour are currently engaged in discussions regarding a potential return for LIV Golf stars. This comes after Rahm experienced disappointment when he received no response from Woods via text message, despite the Spaniard being one of LIV’s most significant signings from the PGA Tour.

Last December, Rahm made headlines by signing a groundbreaking deal worth a reported £450 million. In anticipation of this week’s event in Jeddah, Rahm shared his reasons for switching to LIV, mentioning that he had reached out to both Rory McIlroy and Woods after finalizing the deal.

Surprisingly, Rahm’s Ryder Cup teammate McIlroy publicly expressed support for his decision, despite previously being critical of LIV. However, the same cannot be said for Woods, a 15-time major champion.

Rahm informed ESPN that Rory has shown both public and private support for his decision. In contrast, Tiger did not provide a response. Rahm reached out to Tiger and others during the decision-making process to clarify that his choice was personal and not directed against anyone.

The viewpoint of Woods holds significant value for every golfer, given that he is the most prominent figure in the sport with 82 PGA Tour victories. Although Rahm might have been worried about Woods’ unresponsiveness, he would have been relieved to learn that both he and the PGA Tour’s management are collaborating with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) to negotiate a deal. This agreement will enable members of the breakaway league to rejoin their previous tour.

Woods discussed the various models for pathways back during this month’s Genesis Invitational. The impact on players who have chosen to stay or leave, as well as how to enhance the product moving forward, are all being considered. There are no definitive answers at this time.

Different ideas are being explored at different levels, but the short-term and long-term outcomes remain uncertain. Discussions and emails are ongoing to determine the best course of action for the future of the tour.

Following his move at the end of 2023, Masters champion Rahm expressed his desire to compete in all three tours – LIV Golf, the PGA Tour, and DP World Tour. Despite the differences between the tours, Rahm is determined to maintain his status on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour.
