Jake Knapp’s first PGA Tour victory Sunday at the Mexico Open wasn’t without a “dramatic” finale.
The PGA Tour newcomer aimed to finish the par-5 18th at Vidanta Vallarta, while his girlfriend, Makena White, observed eagerly.
White expressed her excitement to tournament staff, as seen in the Tour’s recording.

Knapp, aged 29, carefully placed his birdie putt close to the hole and secured the win by tapping it in.
White remarked on the intensity of the moment before the golfer from California made his shot.
Knapp and Sami Valimaki were neck and neck throughout the final round, with Knapp initially leading by four strokes.
However, Valimaki caught up and the competition intensified as they battled it out on the back nine.
In the end, Knapp managed to secure the victory by taking control in the closing holes.
Valimaki’s chances were dashed when he hit his tee shot out of bounds on the last hole, ultimately relieving Knapp of any remaining pressure.
Knapp expressed his gratitude for the support he received throughout his journey to his first career victory, emphasizing the role of various individuals, including White who traveled from Canada to be present during the final round.
The NBC broadcast also mentioned that the couple has been in a relationship for six months.
Despite not performing at his best on Sunday, Knapp dedicated his win to his late grandfather, Gordon Bowles, and all those who have been part of his team and family for many years.
Knapp, a former nightclub bouncer, not only secured a prize of $1,458,000 with his victory on Sunday, but also earned himself a spot in the prestigious Masters tournament in April, followed by the PGA Championship in May.
“I’m extremely excited about how I performed in the final stretch,” Knapp expressed.
Following his impressive performance, Knapp has climbed up the world rankings to 52nd place, a significant jump from his previous position at 101st.
