Tiger Woods would ‘love to retire’ from golf but hand was forced with comeback

It has been claimed that icon Tiger Woods has considered walking away from golf for good, with the suggestions coming after his withdrawal from the Genesis Invitational.

A source close to Tiger Woods has revealed that the golf legend has a strong desire to retire from the sport he is so closely associated with. However, his numerous commercial obligations are preventing him from doing so.

With an impressive record of five Masters victories and numerous major championship titles, Woods has become a global icon. Unfortunately, his recent years have been plagued by fitness issues, including a serious car accident in February 2021 that resulted in leg and ankle fractures.

Additionally, he has been dealing with back problems that required surgery. Despite his intentions to return to the PGA Tour, Woods withdrew from his first event after just six holes.

The Daily Mail reports that Woods would ideally like to end his career, but he continues to persevere due to his commitments to his various business ventures and endorsements.

Woods continues to be a significant attraction for brands due to his star power, even after parting ways with Nike earlier this year. Recently, he introduced a new clothing line called Sun Day Red in collaboration with TaylorMade Golf.

An insider hinted at Woods’ potential weariness with his current situation, stating, “If Tiger had the choice, he would retire. His body has taken a toll, but he still needs to maintain his public image for his brand. Following his car accident, he thought it was all over. There was a risk of amputation, so his return is nothing short of a miracle.

Despite his recent illness leading to his withdrawal from a tournament, Woods is determined to support his new brand, Sun Day Red, and other commitments. He expressed his reasons for leaving the Genesis Invitational on his Twitter account, informing his 6.5 million followers that he had to withdraw due to influenza.

“I am currently in a state of rest and experiencing an improved condition. I extend my best wishes to the players participating in the upcoming weekend,” he conveyed, expressing his regret for not being able to continue his participation in the event, which marked his first PGA Tour start of the season. “I feel disappointed about my absence and would like to express my gratitude to Genesis and all the fans for their unwavering support.”

Prior to this, his business partner, Rob McNamara, provided further insight into the challenges Woods faced after falling ill on the course. McNamara confirmed, “He had a slight fever which improved during the warm-up, but as he began walking and playing, he started experiencing dizziness.”

Continuing, McNamara shared that medical professionals have indicated a potential flu and dehydration as the underlying causes. He also revealed that Woods received treatment through an IV bag and is now in a much better state, soon to be discharged on his own.
