Perez ‘not bothered’ by early driver market activity

Sergio Perez is one of 13 drivers without a contract for 2025 but he remains calm about his situation ahead of what could be his last year with Red Bull.

Sergio Perez remains focused on his current situation despite the recent developments in the driver market for the 2025 season.

With several drivers, including Perez, still without contracts for next year, the available seats are slowly being filled. Ferrari is fully booked until 2027, and Williams Team Principal James Vowles has confirmed that Alex Albon is secured until the end of 2025.

Perez does have potential options in top teams if Red Bull decides not to keep him for next season, as Mercedes and Aston Martin each have a vacant seat.

The announcement of Hamilton’s move to Ferrari has accelerated the ‘silly season’, with drivers expected to secure their spots on the 2025 grid earlier than usual. While driver transfers are typically announced during the summer break, it is uncommon for 65% of the grid to be in need of new contracts.

The number of drivers seeking a new contract may lead to many exceeding their limits in the initial races, aiming to persuade either their current team or a different one to extend an offer.

As Perez enters the final year of his contract, he is no stranger to this situation, entering his 14th season in the top tier of motorsport. His vast experience and expertise could greatly contribute to securing a place on the 2025 grid, although he is not overly preoccupied with it.

Perez is distancing himself from the driver market commotion, prioritizing his performance over his contract negotiations. The Mexican driver is confident that if he performs well for Red Bull in 2024, everything else will fall into place naturally.

Perez adopts a new strategy
“I believe that most drivers will aim to finalize things much earlier in the season,” Perez shared with select media outlets, including RacingNews365. “However, it all comes down to the approach you take. Personally, I am concentrating on delivering a strong performance this year.”

The rest naturally falls into place when one is consistently performing on track, so I am not particularly concerned about it. With it being my 14th season in F1, my primary objective is to excel on the track. In order to achieve this, Perez has adopted a fresh strategy for the 2024 season, where he will concentrate on one race at a time.

“I believe that by approaching each race individually and ensuring that we make the most out of every single weekend, we will be able to achieve our target,” Perez stated. “As I mentioned before, my goal for this year is to take it race by race.”
