Aston Martin chief fires Red Bull ‘infinite’ warning as ‘focus on’ ending Max Verstappen dominance

Aston Martin chief Dan Fallows has warned Red Bull that the Silverstone squad will ‘focus on’ ending Max Verstappen’s dominance of Formula 1 in the 2024 campaign.

Last year was a testament to Red Bull, with the Milton Keynes team winning 21 out of 22 Grands Prix and five out of six sprint races. Verstappen won 19 Grands Prix and 4 sprint races in 2023, winning three consecutive titles and scoring a record 575 points out of 620.

Since the Ferrari star’s win at last year’s Singapore GP, only Carlos Sainz has won a Grand Prix outside of Red Bull. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri also won the Qatar GP as a rookie, overturning Red Bull’s perfect sprint record. Sergio Perez won just one sprint and two grands prix.

Aston Martin will ‘focus on’ ending Red Bull’s F1 dominance in 2024

With Fernando Alonso replacing Sebastian Vettel, Aston Martin could become one of Red Bull’s main rivals. The 42-year-old won six of the first eight Grand Prix races. But the Silverstone team will struggle to stay in the development race.

Alonso has been on the podium twice more during his 14 Grands Prix, but teammate Lance Stroll has never won. Aston Martin’s mid-season collapse left Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren as Red Bull’s main rivals, finishing the year as the fifth best team.

Dan Fallows thinks the AMR24 offers ‘infinite possibilities’ to develop.

Despite dropping to fifth in 2024, 580 points behind Red Bull, Aston Martin technical director Fellows, who left Milton Keynes for Silverstone in 2022, said his team was “focused” on ending their dominance which Verstappen’s team enjoys in the previous season. Let the new season begin.

Fallows also believes that with the AMR24, Aston Martin has the perfect platform to avoid the slump the team suffered in last year’s development race. Aston Martin did not receive many parts from AMR23, which secured Alonso P4 in the drivers’ standings.

“The AMR24 is a big evolution of last year’s car and looks completely different, with many new parts giving us a solid development platform,” he said, via Marca.

“The chassis design is new with the nose, front wing, front suspension and rear suspension. We want to be in the development race this season and this car is just that… We will focus on them. “The room for improvement is endless.”
