Tiger Woods will reportedly have a new caddie on his bag at this week’s Genesis Invitational at Riviera.
According to reports, Tiger Woods has chosen veteran caddie Lance Bennett to accompany him at the Genesis Invitational this week at Riviera.
Woods, 48, had previously worked with Joe LaCava for many years, but LaCava has now taken a permanent position with Patrick Cantlay.
LaCava, who was involved in a controversial incident at the Ryder Cup, has left Woods in search of a new caddie.
Woods has now turned to Bennett, who is renowned for his work with Matt Kuchar during his victory at the 2012 Players Championship.
The Genesis Invitational, taking place this week, is being hosted by Woods, who is also supported by his Tiger Woods Foundation.
In recent years, Woods’ new caddie Bennett has worked with notable golfers such as Sungjae Im, Davis Riley, and Adrien Dumont de Chassart from Belgium, who is considered a rising star.
Bennett has also had the opportunity to work with renowned players on the LPGA Tour, including Juli Inkster, Paula Creamer, and Lorena Ochoa.
It has been confirmed that Bennett’s transition to Woods’ bag for the $20m Signature Event on the PGA Tour this week was facilitated by the fact that Dumont de Chassart is managed by the same agency as Woods.
It is currently uncertain if Bennett will continue to serve as Woods’ caddie for both The Players Championship and The Masters. Woods might opt to switch between different caddies throughout the 2024 PGA Tour season, and only time will tell.
There is a possibility that Rob McNamara, who caddied for Woods during the Hero World Challenge in December 2023, could be called up to work on Woods’ bag this year. However, it is important to note that the Hero World Challenge was not an official PGA Tour event like the one taking place this week.
McNamara serves as Woods’ enduring business associate and holds the position of TGR’s vice president.
Furthermore, Woods had the opportunity to compete alongside his son, Charlie Woods, in the yearly PNC Championship right before the Christmas festivities.
Certain admirers of Woods are optimistic that he may allow Charlie to assume the responsibility of carrying his bag at some point during the season.
On the other hand, some sentimental individuals are eagerly anticipating the potential return of Steve Williams to Woods’ bag, considering his remarkable achievements as a 15-time major champion.
Williams served as Woods’ caddie for 13 out of his 15 major victories, while Michael Thomas “Fluff” Cowan accompanied him during his first major win at the 1997 Masters.
On the other hand, LaCava was by Woods’ side during his most recent major triumph at the 2019 Masters.
In order to secure the record for the most PGA Tour titles, Woods only needs to clinch one more victory, as he currently shares the record of 82 titles with the legendary Sam Snead.
