A former Mercedes chief has revealed how Mick Schumacher was banned from an F1 team garage by his own parents.
Nick Fry, the former CEO of Mercedes and team principal of Honda in the mid-2000s, recently shared an interesting insight into the Schumacher family’s protective nature towards Mick.
Even though Mick, who is currently a reserve driver at Mercedes and will be participating in the World Endurance Championship with Alpine this season, was given the opportunity to attend Formula 1 races, his loving parents were determined to shield him from the spotlight.
Protecting Mick Schumacher
Fry has shared insights into his close bond with the Schumachers and their unwavering support for Mick, who also raced for the Haas team in 2021 and 2022.
My fondest memories of Michael revolve around the family aspect, particularly the moments when our sons would play together. As mentioned in quotes from OLBG, Michael himself expressed how these moments brought him joy.
Additionally, I recall with fondness how Michael and Corinna prioritized the safety and well-being of their children. It was endearing to witness Mick, who was a teenager back then, being forbidden from entering the garage, yet he would still find a way to position himself behind it, gazing at his father’s car.
They shielded him from the harsh spotlight of fame to the best of their abilities. Mick’s father would have been immensely proud, and witnessing their bond was truly heartwarming.
“That’s what makes it even more disheartening that Michael cannot contribute to his son’s career and witness its growth, just like the kids did for him.”
