World’s No. 2 golfer looking forward to ‘home game’ at nearby PGA National.
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — Following Rickie Fowler’s commitment to participate in the Cognizant Classic, another golfer from Jupiter has now joined the competition.
On Friday, Rory McIlroy, the world’s second-ranked golfer, announced his participation in this year’s Cognizant Classic at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens.
McIlroy previously emerged victorious in the tournament back in 2012, when it was known as the Honda Classic.
“It’s always a pleasure to return to a tournament where you have previously triumphed and experienced success. It becomes even more special when it feels like a home game,” McIlroy expressed. “PGA National presents a formidable golf challenge, and the unwavering support from the fans and the incredible crowds create an exhilarating atmosphere for the players throughout the entire week.”
McIlroy’s upcoming participation in Palm Beach County’s PGA Tour event will mark his 10th appearance in the tournament.
Prior to this, he secured a second-place finish at the Dubai Invitational on the DP World Tour and emerged victorious at the Dubai Desert Classic.
Following Fowler’s commitment on Tuesday, McIlroy becomes the second notable player to join the Cognizant Classic field. Fowler previously won the tournament in 2017.
