Vladi Guerrero, son of HOF slugger and half-brother of Blue Jays star, strikes deal with Mets

NEW YORK (AP) – Another member of the Guerrero family is headed to pro ball.

The New York Mets have reached an agreement with Vladi Miguel Guerrero, a talented outfielder/infielder from the Dominican Republic. Vladi, who is the son of the legendary Hall of Fame slugger Vladimir Guerrero and the half-brother of Toronto star Vladimir Guerrero Jr., has signed a minor league contract with the Mets.

As the 2024 international signing period began, the Mets secured deals with several promising players, including the 17-year-old left-handed hitter Guerrero.

The club has reached agreements with three promising prospects. Catcher Yovanny Rodriguez, ranked as the No. 6 overall prospect, will receive a signing bonus of $2.85 million. Shortstop Yensi Rivas, ranked at No. 31, will receive a signing bonus of $500,000. Outfielder Edward Lantigua, ranked at No. 41, will receive a signing bonus of $950,000.

Players who were born between September 1, 2006, and August 31, 2007, are eligible to sign during this year’s signing period, which concludes on December 15. Each team has a signing bonus pool ranging from approximately $4.65 million to $7.1 million. It is important to note that signing bonuses of $10,000 and below do not count against a team’s cap.
