Ricciardo highlights ‘cool’ aspect about Hamilton and Alonso

Daniel Ricciardo expressed his admiration for the longevity of figures like Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso in Formula 1, noting that it’s ‘cool’ they continue in the sport despite the average age of the grid dropping.

In recent years, we have witnessed the impressive progress of rookies in Formula 1. One shining example of this is McLaren driver Oscar Piastri, who secured a victory in his debut season, showcasing the upward trend of newcomers.

In 2021, Max Verstappen, a three-time world champion, joined the ranks of the youngest champions in Formula 1 history. He followed in the footsteps of seasoned veterans Hamilton and Alonso, who continue to excel in the sport.

This remarkable feat prompted Ricciardo to describe Hamilton and Alonso as ‘cool’ due to their enduring presence in Formula 1 and their ongoing battles at the forefront.

Ricciardo shared his thoughts with the media, stating, “It’s fascinating to observe the rise of young talents in various sports, including Formula 1. It seems like the talent pool is getting younger and younger. However, we also have the likes of Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton, who prove that age is just a number. It’s truly inspiring.”

“Fairy tale” return to Red Bull

Ricciardo also mentioned his comeback to AlphaTauri, recognizing that although he rejoined the Red Bull sister team, his ultimate aspiration was to conclude his career with Red Bull.

“We’re also receiving more support from Red Bull, the energy is being directed in the right direction, and then we’ll see,” Ricciardo commented on the cooperation with Red Bull.

“Obviously, my goal is to eventually go back to Red Bull, that’s the dream scenario, and I would absolutely love to finish my career there. However, I also try not to get too caught up in that.”

“That’s why I refer to it as a fairy tale, because it’s not a reality or a certainty until it actually happens. My focus is to perform at my best with this team, and securing fourth place in Mexico [qualifying] brings me immense joy.”

With both Ricciardo and Sergio Perez’s contracts set to expire at the end of the 2024 season, the possibility of the honey badger returning to Red Bull emerges.
