Ludvig Aberg joins Ryder Cup teammate in rejecting another LIV Golf contract

A few days after Viktor Hovland dispelled LIV Golf rumors while also taking PGA Tour management to task, the Norwegian’s Ryder Cup teammate has shot down interest in the upstart circuit.

Ludvig Aberg, who has previously received offers from LIV Golf, has made the decision to turn down another offer from the Saudi Arabian-backed league. Despite his breakout rookie season on the PGA Tour, Aberg remains confident in his choice.

Reflecting on his decision, Aberg expressed his unwavering belief, stating, “I will never prioritize money over competition. What matters to me is the thrill of competing. I know I made the right decision.”

Aberg’s determination to face off against the best players in the world is what drives him. He explained, “I have a competitive spirit, and I thrive on challenging myself against top-notch opponents. Unfortunately, it seems that the current golf landscape is somewhat fragmented.”

When comparing the PGA Tour to other leagues, Aberg emphasized the rich history and prestige surrounding the competitions. He said, “The PGA Tour holds a special place in my heart because of the incredible legacy associated with its tournaments. That’s what I aspire to be a part of. However, I also respect the decisions made by other players.”

At just 24 years old, Aberg has already made a significant impact in the golfing world. As the first player to earn his PGA Tour card through PGA Tour University, he seized the opportunity and excelled. Aberg’s impressive rookie season included only one missed cut in 11 starts, with eight top-25 finishes, a runner-up position at the Sanderson Farms Championship, and a victory at the season-ending RSM Classic. Prior to his win at Sea Island, Aberg also secured his first professional victory at the DP World Tour’s Omega European Masters. Additionally, as a Ryder Cup rookie, he achieved a commendable 2-2 record, including a notable 2-1 performance alongside Hovland.

LIV is still trying to fill its teams for the 2024 season, which begins in less than two months in Mexico. Aberg and Hovland joined Tony Finau as the high-profile PGA Tour players who have rejected the league in the wake of Jon Rahm’s departure.
