Finland’s Kalle Samooja emerged as the medalist on Sunday at the LIV Golf Promotions event in Abu Dhabi and will be joined by Zimbabwe’s Kieran Vincent and Japan’s Jinichiro Kozuma as members of the LIV Golf League in 2024.
The three-day qualifying event saw the field reduced to 20 players for Sunday’s 36-hole tournament, with the top three advancing to a 12-team league and winning more than $1 million in prize money.
England’s Rory Canter, who played as a reserve in several LIV golf events in 2023, lost in a play-off to Vincent and Kozma for the final two spots.
He and players who finish from his 4th place to his 10th place in the final standings will be given an exemption for the International His series. The International Series is an additional event group consisting of at least 10 events, with winners of the Order of Merit qualifying to compete in the International Series, next season. Former U.S. Amateur champion Andy Ogletree secured that spot this year and will be on one of the LIV golf teams next year.
Players eligible to compete in the International Series include former PGA Tour winners Kevin Chappell and Martin Trainer.
Samooja received $200,000 for his win, and Vincent and Kozma each received $125,000. The minimum payout for each of the 13 events is his $120,000, and three players are guaranteed prizes of more than $1 million in 2024.
