Piastri claims prestigious FIA award after debut F1 campaign

Oscar Piastri was named FIA Rookie of the Year after his first season in Formula 1.

Piastri joined McLaren’s campaign after spending the 2022 season on the sidelines as an Alpine reserve.

Australian driver has had a successful debut year in F1 despite McLaren’s difficult start to the season.

“If we can start next year the way we finished, we should be in good shape this season,” Piastri said at the ceremony.

“I really enjoyed my rookie season in F1.
I hope it will be the last rookie season of my career.”

Piastri is the first F1 rookie to win the award since Alex Albon in 2019 and joins Charles Leclerc as a two-time winner of the honour.
